The service of the Epitaphios, which symbolizes the burial place of Christ, took place in an emotionally charged atmosphere in the Holy Metropolis of Demetrias.

His Eminence Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias officiated the service at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Volos.  Political and military representatives were also present.

At the end of the service, worshipers carried candles and the Epitaphios and processed outside of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas to the pier of the city where every year the Cathedral along with three other Churches meet, the Church of the Ascension of Christ, the Church of the Transfiguration of our Savior and the Church of Sts. Constantine and Helen.
