First International Meeting of the "Doctors of Charity"

The first international meeting of the "Doctors of Charity" took part with great success in the University of Thessaly, from 30/06/2000 to 02/07/2000 organised by the Holy Metropolis of Demetrias, under the guidance of the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece Christodoulos. More than 120 members from Magnesia prefecture and about 100 members from other place of Greece and abroad attended the meeting.

Youth Conference, "Young people hug Church"

More than 900 young students took part in the "Youth Conference" that was organised by the Holy Metropolis of Demetrias during the weekend of 19 & 20 February 2000. For the first time, the speakers of a conference were young people, students, speaking about how they want Church to be, what they expect from Church, what should change for its improvement.

The feast of the Holy Epiphany

The Metropolitan of Demetrias Ignatios took part to the Holy Liturgy during Thursday 6th January 2000, day of the Holy Epiphany, in the Diocese Cathedral St Nikolaos. Later on, he performed the service of the Holy Cross diving to Volos sea port, with the attendance of representatives of the authorities, army and many people. On Friday 7th January he attended and took part to the Holy Liturgy in the festal St Ioannis Prodrommos in Agia.

With two very interesting events began the series of the new millenium events. On Wednesday 12th of January a lecture took place by the professor of Law George Papastamkos. On Monday 17th January took place the lecture by the professor Chris Giannaras in the Spiritual Center of the Holy Metropolis of Demetrias.

Celebrating the feast of St Nikolaos

On December 5th and 6th the celebrations of our protector St Nikolaos took part in Volos city. The Metropolitans of Neapoli Filippon, of Thasos Prokopios, pf Vrenia Pachomios, of Iopi Damaskinos and of Demetrias Ignations took part to the celbrations. 15 years with the Hagiography School

The evening of Tuesday November 2nd 1999, the blessing of the Hagiography school took part, by the Metropolitan of our Diocese Ignatios. Responsible for the 4 year graduation school is fr Dimitrios Katounis. The school is referred to people 15-35 years old. It functions every day 5.30-9.30pm with practical and theoretical program of studies. Event for the lawyers of our Diocese

During the evening of Sunday October 3rd 1999 a meeting for the lawyers took part at the Cathedral of our Diocese Saint Nikolaos, with the opportunity of the feast of Saint Dionisios Areopagitis, protector of the lawyers. Over 200 people attended the meeting .

15 years with the Feeding Center of the Holy Diocese: "Dos imin simeron"

It has been 15 years ago (Sunday 12/9/1999) since the blessing of the Feeding Center in the cathedral of Volos Saint Nikolaos. The name of the Center is "Dos imin simeron", from the Greek translation of the Lord's prayer: "Give us this day our daily bread". Since then, the center function 365 days per year, supporting about 180 portions of food.

(Article in "Pliroforisis", issue of June 1999) On Wednesday 19th May 1999 the Metropolitan of Demetrias Ignatios attended to the Holy Vespels in the Assumption of Christ church in Volos. On Thursday 20th, the day of this great feast, our Metropolitan took part to the celebrating Holy Liturgy, in which he spoke to the overcrowded church.

Celebrating the feast of the Saints Konstantinos and Eleni, the Metropolitan of Samos Efsevios, the Metropolitan of Kithira Kirillos and the Metropolitan of Demetrias Ignatios attended to the very beautiful by the sea side of Volos city church. During the morning of Friday 21st 1999, the three Metropolitan took part in the Holy Liturgy.
