Support to the refugees

Monday, 29 February, 2016

On Thursday 25/2, the associations “Estavromenos” and the Center of Social Help of Holy Metropolis of Demetrias “Diakonia” organized a new humanitarian mission of support for a group of refugees that stayed overnight in an organized parking along the National road, in the area of Sourpi,Almiros.

A group of (250-300) refugees from Syria, with destination the boarders of Greece with FYROM, was led by the Police to the parking so as the bus drivers and the passengers-mostly women and children- get some rest. Men should sleep in the out-door area and women with their children in the buses. Our local Church received one more request-within two days- for blankets. The President of the A.B along with volunteers of “Estavromenos” and “Diakonia”, made an enormous effort so a truck of Holy Metropolis of Demetrias brought a great amount of bed-linen which was distributed to the refugees. It is worth noting that the sight was shocking and their reactions were full of gratefulness.
The association “Estavromenos” urges our citizens to bring clean bed-linen, as the association “DIAKONIA” cannot respond to the needs of all our citizens and of the refugees expected to come soon in our distict.

Whoever wishes to respond to this appeal of our Church, shall call in “DIAKONIA” association (9, G.Kartali-Gladstonos, Volos, tel. +30 24210 20125) for any further information.

On Thursday 25/2, the Association "Crossified" and the Center of Social Help organized a human help for the refugees that stay in Sourpi village of the Almiros city. The main help was blankets because the refugees would spend the night in the village and didn't have and warm clothing.

Everyone is kindly invited to support our local Church and the Association "Crossified" with clean blankets, because every stock was given to the refugees and now we cannot respond to the needs of our brothers and sisters. Everyone who wants to support in any way, can find the Offering Offices at K.Kartali-Gladstonos, at the tel: +30 24210 20125.
