A humanitarian mission was accomplished at the reception center for refugees "Mozas AE" in Volos, today 16.5.2016, by the president of the Prison Ministry Association of Volos' "Estavromenos", the Headpriest Fr Theodoros Batakas, as a spokesman for His Eminence Metropolitan of Demetrias and Almyros Mr Ignatius, in order to express the real interest of the Local Church in refugees and immigrants who have found a shelter in our area.

During the visit, "Estavromenos" provided a sufficient amount of baby and children's clothing, baby food, juices and toys collected by the Social Help Center of the Holy Diocese of Demetrias "DIAKONIA" and spoke to the executives of the Greek army and the police officers, and to refugees who described the difficulties they encounter in their everyday life, the biggest one of which is the food quality.

The few refugees being out of the dormitories, welcomed the spokesman for our Local Church with warm looks, full of gratitude and dignity, and warm handshakes. Although they did not speak the same language, the words were coming from their smile and their hearts. An old lady from Syria ran towards the priest and devoutly kissed his hand, and this gesture was the best response to those people who stir up division in our society.

The humanitarian aid offered to these people who are suffering, was given thanks to the great contribution of the volunteers of "Estavromenos" and "DIAKONIA" who continuously minister to their fellow people with all their heart, responding in this way to the calling of God and His Church.
