Ignatius of Demetrias: "There is no question of autonomy of the New Countries- The Synod corroborates the life of the Church"
His Eminence Metropolitan Ignatius of Demetrias gave very important news on the progress of the proceedings of the Holy and Great Orthodox Synod, held in Crete, speaking to the journalist Nikos Varalis of the radio station of our Local Church "Οrthodoxi Martyria" .
His Eminence referred to the assurance of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, during today's meeting, that "there is no question of autonomy of the so-called New Countries of Greece. The status remains as it is and there is not such question. Everything is working out peacefully and no one should doubt about it. It is an assurance in the presence of the congregation of the Holy and Great Synod, that there is an important development concerning the stability of ecclesiastical status in the Greek Church. The reason why I am saying this, is to primarily stress that the Holy and Great Synod acts in a sincere way, along with the Ecumenical Patriarch who is the head of the Congregation, ministering unity, from the first time, as proclaimed in the Divine Liturgy of Pentecost.
Mr. Ignatius made a special reference to the important statements by His Holiness Patriarch that "East has no Pope, this is not a confederation of Churches, but it is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church". His Eminence concluded, by pointing out that "We corroborate the 21st century through the Holy and Great Synod, with the operation of the Holy Spirit, despite what has been said and written. All those who take part in the Great Synod, are actually experiencing Holy and Spiritual moments. This is a message that we are sending, this is an experience. The Synod corroborates the life of the whole Church".
