The earthquake of 9/7/1980 left very deep damages to the old Monastery of Panaghia Xenia. The nuns had to build a new monastery on a hill near the old monastery, keeping there the monuments and icons of the old one. After so many years of efforts(36 years after the earthquake), today 13/7/20116 the Metropolitan blessed the beggining of the old monastery reconstruction, with the hope and vision that we will see again this great monument (sections of which stand from the 13th century) standing with glory and keeping again the great treasure of the miraculus icon of Panagia Xenia and Her Holy Belt.
